Campaign Responses

I am grateful to constituents who contact me on a wide range of national and international issues. Every day, I receive dozens of campaign "click and send" style emails from constituents who are concerned about a huge variety of issues and I am always pleased to read those emails and to be aware of the concerns which matter to constituents.

While individual constituency and casework enquiries and personal emails about national issues will be answered by email or letter, due to the vast increase in the volume and similarity of campaign emails now being generated, I will be posting my responses on this section of my website as it is not possible for me to respond to them all.

If you have recently sent me an email about an issue which is not listed below, please do check back as this page is refreshed on a regular basis.

Environment Bill

As set out in the 25 Year Plan to Improve the Environment, the decision to leave the European Union has created an historic opportunity to deliver a Green Brexit, where environmental standards are not only maintained but enhanced.

Child refugee family reunion and the EU Withdrawal Agreement Bill

As the Minister indicated in the House in January, the Government remains absolutely committed to seeking a reciprocal agreement with the EU for the family reunion of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, and that the Withdrawal Agreement Bill was not required to achieve this.

Climate change

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges we face. The threat of global warming has never been more apparent, as highlighted by the sobering conclusions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s special report on global warming.

Support for pensioners

I recognise the contribution pensioners have made, and continue to make, to British society. We must ensure that everyone has security and dignity in their retirement.

Homelessness and Local Housing Allowance

I firmly believe that nobody should be without a roof over their head. That is why I welcome the Government’s commitment to end rough sleeping for good, with the aim of halving it by 2022.

Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill

The Queen's Speech included a commitment to increasing prison sentences for offences of animal cruelty and I am committed to ensuring that this takes place as soon as possible.

Assisted dying

Coping with terminal illness is distressing and difficult both for the patient and their families. The issue of whether to permit assisted dying is an extremely difficult one with a variety of competing views.
