Richard Fuller MP at RSPB The Lodge Sandy

Last week, Richard returned to the RSPB site at The Lodge in Sandy to learn more about their work and their plans for the future.

Richard Fuller MP said:

The Lodge is the home to the largest stretch of heathland in Bedfordshire and houses a number of rare species such as Nightjars, Ravens, and Natterjack Toads.

During a walk around the site I was pleased to learn more from Peter, the Site Manager, about the exciting plans coming up at the Lodge including expansion onto a recently acquired field once the soil quality can be restored, and the return of the ever-popular Dartmoor Ponies for their Summer Vacation to Sandy. I was also interested to learn about the tree management that happens on site including the handling of a number of tree-specific diseases and the efforts to remove invasive foreign-trees in favour of our native oaks and birches.
