On Wednesday afternoon, Richard spent time in Stevington with members of the Parish Council to discuss issues around traffic through the village, particularly on Silver Street and at the junction by the Cross Monument.
Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire, said:
I witnessed myself the sheer numbers of cars, vans and lorries using the street which is patently unsuited for such high volumes of traffic, especially given the extremely narrow footpaths that in many places could not accommodate a pushchair, wheelchair or mobility scooter.
I was also shown a number of areas where damage to buildings has occurred through HGVs trying to squeeze through the street, despite the road being signposted as unsuitable for HGVs. Clearly more steps need to be taken and I am happy to work with the Parish Council to see what measures can be introduced to alleviate the problem.
