Richard has been elected to serve on the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee. Richard was a member of the Select Committee until 2017 and will be re-joining at a critical time as we move forward with plans to become carbon zero by 2050.
In a statement to the House last week, the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps commented that "Across the country a number of franchises are failing to provide the reliable services that passengers require."
Richard finished off a busy week with some important constituency visits. Firstly, to Sharnbrook Academy to meet the Principal Clare Raku and Federation CEO Iain Denning. Commenting on the visit, Richard said: "They're doing great work driving standards and aspiration throughout the school.
The re-alignment of the A1 is a much-needed local infrastructure improvement and since being elected, Richard has been meeting local residents, local councils and pressing the case for the re-alignment of the A1.
North East Bedfordshire is a large rural constituency and farming remains an important part of our local economy. Richard today held his first Farmers' Forum so that he could listen to farmers about the challenges they face.
Yesterday, Richard met with Tom Moran, the Managing Director of GTR and representatives of the Arlesey and Biggleswade Rail User Groups. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss local train services, reliability, infrastructure issues and plans for station improvements.
